A website celebrating the work of Canadian actor/writer/director Don McKellar.  One of the most prolific filmmakers in Canada working in film, TV and theatre, ever adaptable whether writing, directing, acting or all three!

 

Don has worked with many acclaimed directors, actors and writers - David Cronenberg, Fernando Meirelles, Park Chan-Wook, Robert Downey Jr, Olivier Assayas, Bruce McDonald, Atom Egoyan, Maury Chaykin, Sarah Polley, Molly Parker, Callum Keith Rennie, Jude Law, Mark Ruffalo, Julianne Moore, Samuel L. Jackson, Olympia Dukakis, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gordon Pinsent, Kim Cattrall, as well as working on numerous occasions with his late wife, fellow actor Tracy Wright. 

 

Winner of various awards including Genie Awards for "The Red Violin" and "Exotica", the Prix de la Jeunesse at Cannes and Best Canadian First Feature Film at the Toronto International Film Festival for his directoral debut "Last Night" and a Tony Award as co-writer of "The Drowsy Chaperone".

He was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 2016 for his contributions to Canadian culture as an actor, writer and director.

He has won acclaim from fellow actors and filmmakers with director Edgar Wright citing Don's work as an inspiration for "Shaun of the Dead" and "Spaced" and even The Simpsons parodying Don's film "32 Short Films About Glenn Gould".
